Cat and Poe Surge Arresters

Camera systems are among the equipment most damaged by lightning and sudden overvoltage. Electronic sensitive systems of camera systems can be damaged even by the slightest surge voltage. In order to prevent this situation, camera systems should be protected with low voltage surge arresters. Cameras are protected differently depending on whether they are analog or IP cameras. At this point, the structure of the camera is important. CAT or POE surge arresters are used in IP cameras.

First of all, there are important points we would like to point out in the protection of cameras. First of all, we need to state that the cameras should be protected with Type 3 surge arresters, but in the gradual protection logic, network surge arresters should also be used in the main panels and secondary panels of the cameras. According to this

  • Type 1+2 surge arresters in Main Panels

  • Type 2+3 surge arresters in secondary panels

If we talk about the protection of IP Cameras, the last point in IP cameras, namely Type 3 surge arrester protection, is important. This type 3 surge arrester depends on whether the camera is Cat or POE. Again, if the camera has a 220 V AC supply, we recommend you to put a Type 3 220 V AC Surge Arrester at this point for energy conservation. As you can see in the image below, both the power lines and the end point CAT or POE point are protected.

Protection of CCTV Camera Systems

If CCTV systems are to be protected together with camera systems, coaxial surge arresters can be used for analog cameras. If monitor systems are to be protected again,  Type 3 surge arresters can be protected.
